South Kesteven District Council is to propose a council tax hike of 3.15% for the next financial year.

The increase would see council tax rise by £5 a year from April for the average Band D property in the district to £163.62.

As part of its budget plans, the authority proposes to raise around £7.8 million in council tax.

Senior councillors are expected to back the hike at a cabinet meeting next Tuesday (18 Feb) before the plan goes before full council.

Meanwhile, Lincolnshire County Council is set to confirm a hike in its share of council tax next week.

The authority is expected to back a 3.5% increase, a rise of £45 on last year.

Council leader, Martin Hill, said the budget was 'positive' and will help to 'protect frontline services'. Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner Marc Jones also saw his proposed 4.1% tax rise supported. The county's police and crime panel gave the go-ahead to increase Lincolnshire Police's share of council tax on Friday (7 Feb). The hike in the rate equates to £9.99 for a Band D property. Mr Jones said the force was 'in a better position' now than last year.
