Lincolnshire Police have reinforced warnings for people to stay at home, as weather forcasters predict snow and ice for the county.

In a statement issued this afternoon, they said: "With the current COVID lockdown it is vital that we only travel if essential and when there is a lawful exemption to do so.

"With a weather warning in place for snow and ice in Lincolnshire all day tomorrow (Saturday 16th), it is imperative to consider once again if your journey is essential.

"If it can be rescheduled to another day, it should be. Snow and sleet will mean hazardous driving conditions tomorrow. Please only travel in your vehicle if absolutely necessary."

Police advised: "If you must use the roads and your journey cannot be delayed, please be prepared. Make sure you have a fully charged mobile, warm clothing, blankets, boots and a shovel. Please drive with extreme caution and in accordance with the conditions, allowing extra time for your journey."

Forecasters have warned of snow arriving through the night after spells of fog and frost.

The sleet and snow is expected around 3am Saturday, with several hours of heavy wintry precipitation, until turning to rain by mid-morning as milder weather moves in from the west.
