Sinkhole closes major Grantham road

A sinkhole has led to the closure of a major road in Grantham town centre.
Lincolnshire County Council has made an emergency closure of Avenue Road, with traffic is being diverted.
Its highways department said on twitter: "We've had to put an emergency closure on Avenue Road after a sinkhole opened up. We're investigating the cause."
They added: "Appreciate this will cause some disruption in the town so thank you to residents for bearing with us!"
Earlier, however, council officials had said people are ignoring the current signage, etc, and also using junctions to get around it which they declared to be 'unsafe.'
