Road closures for improvements in Grantham will cause 'some local disruption'

By The Editor 11th Jun 2019

A number of residential roads in the Barrowby Gate area are to be resurfaced over the coming weeks.

Work on a number of the roads is required because surface dressing carried out last year 'did not meet the required standards'.

The improvements are due to begin on Monday, 24 June and are expected to be completed by the end of July.

In addition, Barrowby Gate and Worcester Road will be surface dressed, extending their lives and meaning potholes are less likely to form in future.

Each road will need to be closed while the improvements are carried out, with signed local diversions put in place. Affected residents will receive further details on timings ahead of the works.

Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: "A number of these roads were surface dressed last year, but the work did not meet the required standards.

"So the contractor is being brought back in to put things right - and at their own expense.

"This time they will be resurfacing the roads, which should mean a significant improvement in their condition.

"We're also taking the opportunity to surface dress Barrowby Gate and Worcester Road, which will make them much less liable to potholes.

"There will be some local disruption while the work is carried out, for which we apologise, but hopefully the benefits of the work will outweigh this."

The roads to be resurfaced are: Chichester Close, Norwich Way, Hereford Way, Portsmouth Close, Chelmsford Drive, Westminster Way, Ripon Close, Ely Way, Truro Close, Rochester Drive, Lichfield Close, Derby Close, Bristol Close, Lincoln Close, Coventry Close, Carlisle Close, St Albans Close, Guildford Close, Peterborough Close, Ipswich Gardens, Newcastle Close and Birmingham Close.
