The streets of Grantham will be transformed next month when the town holds its first Portuguese and English Festival of Culture offering traditional food and drink, music, dance, crafts and friendship.

The two-day event on 22 and 23 June will centre on St Peter's Hill as visitors from both countries strengthen bonds and celebrate their heritage.

The event is hosted by South Kesteven District Council and its economic growth company, InvestSK, with PT Connections - a community interest company which supports Portuguese nationals in the UK.

InvestSK Chief Executive Steve Bowyer said: "This busy two-day festival promises to offer something for everyone, with entertainment for adults and children alike.

"The Portuguese and English communities will come together to share their food, heritage and culture and I'd urge everyone to visit the festival and join in.

"It's a great chance to sample some traditional food, drink and entertainment from England and Portugal."

The music stage will host acts from both countries. Star solo performers, Rui Bandeira and Monica Sintra, will be supported by fellow musicians, Joana Lobo Anta and Natalia Cerqueira, as well as local bands Chasing Embers, 23 Reasons, Alex Cavan and Naturally Sourced. Swing band Hi Rollers and 1940s act Peter Wayne will also take to the main stage.

Portuguese retailers will pitch up alongside English stalls, with traditional food, wine and beer on sale over both days. As well as the entertainment and refreshments, there will be children's fairground rides, face painting, family fun and evening attractions.

The event will take place at St Peter's Hill opening at 10am each day and closing at 10pm on 22 June and 8pm on 23 June.
