Two planting days have been scheduled for the new Grantham commemorative Heroes Orchard.

Spearheaded by Wyndham Park Forum the Heroes Orchard, close to the park, will commemorate the district's rich aviation history.

A total of 75 heritage fruit trees will be planted to mark the 75th anniversary of Grantham and the district's role in D-Day and Arnhem plus the 2020 commemoration of Victory in Europe.

The orchard will become a living tribute to British forces and their wartime allies, continuing the aviation heritage work done in recent years by South Kesteven District Council.

Two planting days are planned - on Sunday, 15 March between 2pm and 4pm and Thursday, 19 March from 11am to 1pm - for the forum to accommodate as many of the orchard's supporters as possible.

Anyone interested in joining is advised to wear boots or wellies and that the planting area is rough pasture.

The organisers are asking anyone planning on attending to either leave a message with the volunteers at Wyndham Park Visitor Centre or by emailing the forum secretary at [email protected].

A CrowdfundSK appeal has surpassed its £12,500 target to plant the trees, put up new fencing and install interpretation boards.
