Forty-eight homes are planned in a village north of Grantham.

Steve Ablewhite of Ashes Farm, Long Bennington, has submitted proposals to South Kesteven District Council concerning a 2.34 ha site west of Main Road at the south-west end of the village.

The land is classed as grade 3 agricultural land but has been allocated for residential development in the Local Plan, which SKDC adopted earlier this year.

The outline application seeks a mix of 18 2-bed, 25 3-bed and five 4-bed homes, including several terraces.

Some 35 per cent or 17 of the homes would be 'affordable.'

They would also be in a variety of styles, with a mix of traditional and 'barn like' homes.

The development would also include amenity space, playing areas and a sound 'bund' close with accoustic fencing to the A1.

The application added the scheme would help the district meet its housing needs, and would enhance the local economy. The site was also sustainable, with Long Bennington having regular bus links to Grantham and Newark.
