The ongoing restoration of Capability Brown's original 18th century landscape design at Belvoir Castle provides the perfect setting for this summer's first open-air theatre production of Jane Austen's classic Regency romance Pride and Prejudice.
Performed by leading outdoor performers Chapterhouse Theatre Company and brought to life by award-winning writer Laura Turner, the one night only production is being staged on Tuesday, 20 August.
Julie Priestley, Commercial Operations Manager at Belvoir Castle, says: "It's as if Pride and Prejudice was written to be performed at Belvoir Castle.
"You couldn't ask for a more perfect setting, with the Regency castle and stunning gardens only adding to the electric atmosphere.
"We're delighted to welcome Chapterhouse Theatre Company's wonderful take on this classic literary tale.
"The book has sold over 20 million copies worldwide and Hollywood A-listers, including Keira Knightley, have lined up to play the inimitable Elizabeth Bennett.
"It's a must-see production set in a must-see location."
Richard Main, Producer and Artistic Director for Chapterhouse Theatre Company, adds: "Performing Pride and Prejudice at Belvoir Castle is a truly unique opportunity to enjoy this human journey from hate to love. S
"Spirited Elizabeth Bennet meets single, rich, and proud Mr. Darcy. But Mr. Darcy reluctantly finds himself falling in love with a woman beneath his class.
"The question is, can each of them overcome their own pride and prejudice? We'll let you decide!"
Chapterhouse Theatre Company has toured significant historic venues and theatres throughout the UK, Europe and China for 20 years.
Gates open at 6pm, please bring your own rugs or low-backed seating.
