Nub News – a new nationwide portfolio of hyper-local news and What's On sites – is seeking an ambitious and proactive reporter with a passion for local news to join its expanding team.
Based in the East Midlands, you will join an experienced editorial team currently managing five sites in Lincolnshire and Rutland (Stamford, Oakham, Bourne, Grantham and Market Deeping). The successful applicant will join as this cluster expands to include more town-centric news sites.
The ideal candidate will be keen to join a rapidly-growing news organisation with community news at its core. As well as creating and publishing content daily across a number of Nub News sites, you will also be expected to build and manage a contacts book of local 'Nubbers' – news, sports and What's On correspondents who can self-publish content using the 'Nub It' button on every site.
Additionally, you will play a key role in managing our social media platforms and distributing content.
The position would suit a journalism graduate, or a qualified journalist with experience of working in fast-paced digital journalism, or an experienced reporter seeking to return to journalism after a career break.
This full-time, permanent role is based in the East Midlands.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and write exclusive news stories and rework press releases on a daily basis.
- Build up a network of Trusted Contributors – village correspondents, councillors, sports clubs, social clubs, etc – and encourage them to self-publish news and What's On events on our sites.
- Distribute content through our social media channels and engage with local, social community groups to promote Nub News and encourage debate.
- You will be expected to generate your own story ideas and follow those through to publishing, with guidance from a regional editor.
Desired skills and experience:
- The ideal candidate will have experience of journalism or be able to demonstrate news gathering ability.
- Degree, NCTJ or similar journalism qualification.
- An interest in local news reporting.
- A willingness to learn and develop as a journalist.
- Ability to work quickly and accurately.
- An understanding of social media – candidates with experience of working in social media or using social media in their current roles would be preferred.
- Fluent in English.
- A competitive salary.
- Opportunities for editorial training and career advancement.
- The chance to join a fast-paced, growing news organisation.
- Expertise and guidance by an experienced team of editors and journalists.
