New speed limit improves road safety in Manthorpe

By The Editor 17th Dec 2019

A lower speed limit imposed on the A607 has improved road safety in Manthorpe.

The new 30mph limit through Manthorpe was introduced two months ago, following concerns from Belton and Manthorpe Parish Council.

The parish council has been monitoring vehicle speeds since the lower speed limit came into force and, of the 73,000 speeds recorded, around 75 percent were 30mph or below.

Coun Ray Wootten, member for Grantham North, said: "The new limit has had a dramatic effect, reducing the speed of the majority of vehicles.

"With plans in place for the creation of a Community Speed Watch scheme it is hoped that further reductions may be possible.

"This initiative, put forward by the parish council and supported by myself and Coun Richard Davies, cabinet member for highways, demonstrates that by working together we can make communities like Manthorpe a safer place to live."

Coun Davies added: "Over 10,000 vehicles a day use this route, and it was important we responded to the local concerns about speeding.

"I'm pleased that, after such a short space of time, the new speed limit has already made such a significant difference, improving road safety in the village."
