Schools across Lincolnshire have reported a successful A-level results day, despite national concerns about declining grades following the reintroduction of pre-pandemic marking methods.
Martin Smith, assistant director for education at Lincolnshire County Council, explained that during the pandemic, examinations were cancelled, leading to grades being awarded based on teacher assessments.
"During this period, average grades rose slightly across the country, including in Lincolnshire. With the return of exams, grades are expected to revert to pre-pandemic levels," he said.
He further emphasised the council's commitment to supporting students, adding, "We expect pupils' hard work to be reflected in the results."
The King's School in Grantham revealed that nearly 40% of all exams resulted in A* and A grades.
For national comparison, the government's Key Points revealed that A-level results in England for 2023 saw 25.5% of entries awarded an A or A*.
Head Master Simon Pickett said: "These are an exceptional set of results from an exceptional group of students.
"I am immensely proud of all their achievements, especially given the national concerns surrounding this year's exams."
Carre's Grammar School's Headteacher, Nick Law, expressed pride in the students, acknowledging the unique challenges they faced.
"This year's group has faced educational challenges not seen for generations and has exceeded expectations. I am very proud of them," he said.
Kesteven and Sleaford High School in Sleaford also reported impressive results.
Headteacher Jo Smith commented: "I am so proud of how the students have performed this year. At a time when the national picture on exams is gloomy, our pupils have excelled."
Sir William Robertson Academy spotlighted the achievements of Thomas Jackson from Newark, who secured a clean sweep of A* grades and a place at Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge, to study Engineering.
Mark Guest, headteacher, noted: "This cohort of students didn't sit their GCSE exams due to the pandemic, but today's results are a testament to their talent, hard work, and commitment."
Lincoln UTC celebrated its engineering students as well, with 56% achieving distinction grades.
Half of Lincoln UTC students specialise in engineering, either on the extended BTEC or the new T Level qualification. Standout student, Gabrielle Pirie, defied the national trend with A*, A*, A*, A* grades.
Boston College also reported a successful year, with Deputy Principal Heather Marks praising the students and staff. "The commitment and high standards of the students and A Levels department are evident from the impressive pass rate," Marks said.
The college highlighted successes like Cerys Ward and Brooklin Gardner, who secured a place at the University of York to study English.
