Lincolnshire Police is supporting a campaign to help keep users safe on the internet.
Safer Internet Day is celebrated around the world on Tuesday 9th February and it promotes the safe and positive use of digital technology especially among children and young people.
Detective Superintendent Martyn Parker from its Protecting Vulnerable People team said: "The internet is one of the greatest inventions of the 20th century - offering you an encyclopedia of information at the click of your fingertips, but concerns about safety, especially for children, persist.
"With an ever increasing market of online applications and live streaming opportunities there is also an ever increasing opportunity for criminals to target potential victims through these channels, whether for harassment, abuse or fraud.
"Children are at risk of sharing too much information about themselves online. The safeguarding of young people is a priority and we are encouraging everyone to play their part in building a better internet.
"We want youngsters to remember that behind every screen is a real person. Being kind and positive online is just as important as being kind and positive face-to-face."
Lincolnshire Police works in partnership with other agencies including Lincolnshire Safeguarding Children Partnership.
