An interpretation panel has been erected by the historic 'Grantham Oak' on Belton Lane.

The move, earlier this week, follows fencing and other protection being placed around the oak on the eastern side of Belton Lane to safeguard its future.

South Kesteven District Council and the Woodland Trust have spent £15,000 on the measures helped by funding from the People's Postcode Lottery.

Grantham Mayor Adam Stokes said: "This tree has been here for more than 500 years. We need to ensure it's there for future generations as well."

Coun Linda Wootten said: "The plaque looks really good. It will inform the public about how precious the tree is."
