Here's The Nub Of It: Local News By You, For You
By Guest
5th Apr 2019 | Local News
It's now five weeks since Nub News launched five hyper-local websites in Stamford, Bourne, The Deepings, Oakham and Grantham without fanfare.
In that short time, we were the first to publish several major local news stories - including the shocking break-in at Stamford's The Bombay Cottage and the Deepings police officer receiving a bravery award from Cambridgeshire Police's Chief Constable.
Several high-profile tourist attractions - including Burghley House and Belvoir Castle - are now posting on our sites and we've received unsolicited encouragement from the Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland.
We've also notched up 19,000 page views across the five sites.
It's been a fantastic start...but with your involvement it can be even better.
Nub News is unique in that it lets YOU self-publish using the Nub It buttons found on the home page for news and What's On page for events listings.
Fake news alert, I hear you cry.
Sorry, no. All submitted content requires a legitimate name, e-mail and telephone number and is moderated before going live. And with an experienced team boasting over 60 years in journalism, trust me, we can wheedle out the fakers.
Nub News is the perfect platform for your organisation, charity, business, church, school, sport's team - anyone in fact - to share your fantastic achievements with the community.
We LIKE good news stories. While it is intrinsic to my role as Regional Editor to publish all types of news (even bad, at times), we can already see that good, local, community interest stories are hugely popular.
I appreciate that self-publishing might be a difficult thing to get your head around. After all, I'm guessing that not many of you currently fire off many stories to our local newspapers…
But the concept of community-driven editorial is gaining momentum around the world. Here in the UK, large established news organisations are already set to follow in our footsteps.
Community content will become the norm and we already have many contributors who have embraced the idea of self-publishing with enthusiasm - providing interesting and well-read content.
It goes without saying that you know best what is going on in your community - both the good and the bad - and Nub News offers you the opportunity to share this with our readers.
So, visit your hyper-local Nub News website, have a look around and maybe you - or an organisation you are associated with - will have something to contribute. It's quick, easy and, of course, free.
While you're there, marvel at the fact that news and what's on content is incredibly to easy to read without any annoying click-bait, pop-up surveys or advertising. Sure, some of our content is aggregated from other news sources, but this will lessen as we move forward.
Finally, I would like to thank all those who have contributed community content so far - several more than once.
If you want any advice or guidance about self-publishing or want to talk to me about a news story then don't hesitate to e-mail [email protected] or call 07803 723233.
