A growing Grantham business is now able to relocate and build larger premises in another part of town.

Members of the planning committee of South Kesteven District Council has approved an application from the Zarafa Group concerning a site off Springfield Road.

As previously reported by Nub News, the company wanted to erect almost 2000 m2 of building on the 0.84ha site, which is almost double the size of its existing premises on the Alma Park Industrial estate.

Planners supported the application for the building with warehouse (B8 use), covering 1152m2, plus 392m2 of associated workshop (B2 use) and 446m2 of ancillary offices (B1a use).

The company had said approval would allow them to expand and follow their wish to remain in Grantham.

At today's planning committee meeting, members agreed with the officers' recommendation to approve the application concerning the site at the back of the Bairds Old Malt building, which has been empty since a former hire depot building was were demolished there in 2005.

Coun Phil Dilks (Ind-Deeping St James) said: "This is an application to transform a long-term derelict site. We are allowing a growing Grantham business to create jobs."

Former Grantham mayor Ian Selby (Unaligned- Grantham Harrowby) said: "I think this will be very good for the workforce (of Zarafa)."
