A leading East Midlands theatre company will be performing in Sewstern, near Grantham, in November as part of a tour of villages and rural towns across the region.

Dogwood Productions says such a tour brings live theatre to places that might never experience it.

As part of its plan, Another Winter's Tale will visit Sewstern Village Hall on Friday 12th November (2021).

Director Linda Bellekom Allen told Nub News: "The new show features two mysterious characters, seemingly eternally on the run, but from whom or what?

"Sheltering from the storm outside, unable to move on, they pass the time by telling stories to the audience, whilst keeping a fearful watch on both the clock and the door.

"Who are they and what's their story? Friends, innocents, showmen, or something a little more sinister? Only time will tell…"

The show is rich in new live music and designed for audiences aged 8 and upwards.

Linda continued: "It is a journey through the shortest days and the longest nights; drawing upon tales of deepest winter from Japan, Russia, Europe and nearer to home.

"To enliven some of the stories, the show includes shadow puppets, hand puppets and a Kamishibai, a form of traditional Japanese street theatre."

Dogwood, who are based at Collingham, near Newark, have performed previous tours throughout England, one concluding with a sell-out performance at the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford.

The music has been composed by Alastair Collingwood; his work for theatre includes West End hits with 'Betty' directed by Kathy Burke and 'Cora' which also toured the USA. His TV credits include the title music for French and Saunders, Mad About Alice, Rhona and many others. He's also partnered comedienne Jackie Clune in the comedy shows The Day the Music Died (BBC Radio 2) and Happy Families (BBC Radio 4).

The show features Roberta Bellekom, seen recently in an extensive tour of David Walliam's Awful Auntie, playing the West End and major theatres throughout the UK. Prior to that she appeared in Dogwood's No Finer Life, their touring show that was also performed on BBC Radio 4.

The director is Jenet Le Lacheur, recently seen in the new Cinderella movie alongside Pierce Brosnan, Missy Elliott, and James Corden and as Hamlet (St Paul's, Covent Garden) amongst other West End theatre shows. Jenet's directing credits include the upcoming feature film Still Love, and Emotion Pictures Theatre's Last Petal Falling. Jenet continues to work with the Royal Shakespeare Company on their Redefining Juliet project and is a commissioned writer for Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.
