Grantham will welcome two new and/or improved crossings.
Over ten Lincolnshire crossings will be built over the next eighteen months as part of the new county council project.
Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: "Last year, Executive set aside £1.5 million to build over ten Lincolnshire crossings over the next eighteen months – a scheme we're calling the Community Crossings initiative.
"This is a perfect example of councillors delivering for their local residents, since all of these new crossings will not only increase safety, but also improve the lives of those living in the communities where they're located by making it easier to get around by foot."
Below is a list of where new or improved pedestrian crossing facilities are being planned for:
- Newbridge Hill in Louth
- B1174 High Street in Great Gonerby
- A16 Main Road in Stickney
- A52 Swineshead Road in Boston (downtown near Alban Retail Park)
- A52 Barrowby Road in Grantham (south of Poplar Farm)
- A52 Barrowby Road in Grantham (near Greenhill Road)
- A15 in Thurlby (south of High Street)
- Lincoln Road in Skellingthorpe
- A1500 Tillbridge Lane in Sturton by Stow (adjacent to B1241)
- High Street in Blyton (near the primary school)
- B1397 London Road in Wyberton
- Spalding Road in Holbeach
As part of the early planning for the initiative, local members were asked to submit for consideration crossing locations within their divisions. These projects were then sifted, ahead of carrying out feasibility and buildability studies for the shortlisted projects.
Cllr Davies added: "It's important to note that these crossing improvements will be subject to our standard highways procedures, like land procurement and traffic regulation orders. These preliminary pieces of work are currently being carried out for each individual project.
"Once the details of each project are confirmed, we'll share more information about construction, including start dates and the traffic management needed to safely carry out the work.
"Once complete, this initiative will have a very positive impact on the local communities where these improvements are taking place, particularly when it comes to improving safety. For example, on the A52 in Swineshead where there is heavy footfall between the Alban Retail Park and the downtown retail park."
The Community Crossings Initiative will cost £3.8 million in total, with £1.5 million earmarked by Executive in 2023 and the remaining coming from a combination of additional county council funding and developer contributions.
