Grantham: Talk about your organs urges Lincolnshire NHS

Local News by The Editor 26th Sep 2021

Following on from Organ Donation Week, which ends today (Sunday), NHS Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group is reminding people that the law on organ donation has changed.

Nationally, three people die every day in need of an organ, and the point of the annual NHS Organ Donation Week is to ask people to talk to their families about organ donation, to increase the number of people whose lives can be saved or transformed by an organ transplant.

It is important to be aware that organ donation in England has changed to an 'opt out' system.

This means that if you are not in an excluded group and have not confirmed whether you want to be an organ donor - either by recording a decision on the NHS Organ Donor Register, or by speaking to friends and family – it will be considered that you agree to donate your organs when you die. You might have heard this referred to as 'Max and Keira's Law'.

You still have a choice about whether or not you wish to become a donor and your faith, beliefs and culture will continue to be respected. Get the facts about organ donation to help you decide.
