A Grantham school says it is not having to make the pay cuts being imposed on staff at its sister school in Devon.

The Grantham Prep School on Gorse Lane also reports that with 94 per cent of its 100 or so children back in class, things are slowly moving back to normal.

A school statement issued to Grantham Nub News said: "Our sister boarding school St Johns has asked employees to take pay cuts for one year as a temporary measure to be able to mitigate the negative financial effects the covid-19 crisis has had on their school's operations.

"Many of their families have run into financial difficulties due to this crisis, they have had to offer discounts and have seen themselves obliged to close the boarding side of the school for the foreseeable future due to the difficulty posed by international travel at the moment.

"This is an internal operations decision that affects that school only and does not in any way reflect on the financial status of our school (Grantham Prep) or the IES institution.

"Like many other businesses worldwide the Covid-19 crisis has forced them to make difficult decisions with the best interests of the school and its future at heart.

"Our school's operations are independent from theirs and we are thankful that despite the negative effects of the crisis our school continues to be financially healthy and operating normally.

"We are happy to announce that we have 94% of our students back in their classrooms as we slowly move back to normality."
