Police have had their lives threatened, blood spat at them and officers have been assaulted.

Lincolnshire Police have said in a statement: "It's been a busy weekend so far and our officers have been called to a variety of incidents across the county.

"They are working extra hours and longer shifts, all to make sure that people can go out and enjoy Lincolnshire as safely as possible as we ease out of lockdown restrictions."

Their tweet continued: "We're pleased to see more people out and able to socialise more, but what we're not pleased to see is the number of assaults that our officers have been subjected to over the last couple of days.

"Some have had blood spat at them, some have been kicked and hit, some have had threats made to their lives, some have been spat at in the face. This is not acceptable and never will be."

Their spokesman added: "Our officers put themselves in harm's way every day, usually to try and protect complete strangers, and should never be subject to this type of assault.

"We know the job comes with risks but this should never be part of it. Please make sure that you treat our officers with respect and consideration, their job is not an easy one at the best of times."

No further details, such a locations of the incidents were given.

It follows the launch of their Safe Summer campaign, as reported by Nub News.
