The pedestrian crossing on New Beacon Road - near Harrowby Lane - is set to be refurbished next month.
Work is due to begin on Monday, 7 October and will see the current system replaced with new energy efficient equipment.
The team will also be taking the opportunity to replace the tactile paving at the crossing.
During the works the road will remain open, with a temporary crossing put in place for pedestrians.
The project is expected to be completed by Friday, 25 October, subject to favourable weather.
Coun Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: "The existing signal equipment is coming to the end of its life and it's important that we get it replaced to avoid it failing.
"One of the benefits of the new signals is that they are much more energy efficient, which will help reduce our carbon footprint.
"The road will remain open during the works, so that should help minimise the disruption.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and would advise motorists to use alternative routes where possible."
