Grantham MP Gareth Davies and Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Marc Jones, have launched a Crime Survey for residents of Grantham, Stamford, Bourne and all surrounding villages in order to hear about residents' experience of crime in their area.

Gareth and Marc Jones have worked very closely together over the past year to support our police in tackling crime.

Nationally, statistics show that at the end of January, 6,620 extra police officers had been recruited as part of an unprecedented police recruitment drive.

Here in Lincolnshire we have seen an extra 120 new officers recruited already in 2020, meaning we are on track to meet a target of 1,250 officers across the county.

The Government has a national target to reach 20,000 new officers by 2023 and the latest figures show it is on track to meet this target.

Alongside the recruitment campaign, the Government has announced the second round of the Safer Streets Fund, backed by £20 million of new money, to crack down on neighbourhood crimes that blight our communities.

This funding will enable PCC's and Local Authorities to make crime cutting interventions in residential areas to ensure people feel safe in their communities.

Other steps to support frontline police officers include a £636 million funding boost for police forces this year, bringing the total for police funding up to £15.8 billion, boosting police pay by 2.5 per cent, equivalent to a constable receiving an extra £1,100, and enshrining a new police covenant into law, which will offer enhanced support and protection for frontline officers.

Gareth Davies MP said: "Getting more police officers onto our streets is one of our top priorities, and so I am delighted that in just over one year, this Conservative Government has already delivered an extra 81 officers across Lincolnshire.

"Every one of these officers will make an enormous difference in helping to cut crime and keep people safe – and I know that many more will follow.

"By backing our police with the funding, powers and resources they need, we are keeping the public and our communities safe, so that people everywhere can live their lives free from the fear of crime."

Today (Wednesday), we are launching our local Crime Survey so that we can directly feed in the views and perspectives of our residents to operational police leaders.
