The Mere's Leisure Centre in Grantham was back open today.

The venue on Trent Road had been closed for several months due to the lockdown.

This morning staff welcomed the first customers after getting the premises ready and covid-19 secure.

Among the first customers was Lou Kennedy, who said on Facebook: "Absolutely buzzing after my 1st gym session this morning! Staff were so happy, felt really safe, loads of cleaning supplies, everyone saying hi in the gym, really well spaced out, 5 minute warning before the end of your booked session.

He added: "I can't wait to go back again - oh that would be this afternoon :-) Thank you to you all for your hard work, really do appreciate it xx"

Grantham's re-opening is part of a phased opening of facilities in South Kesteven by 1 Life, who operate the council's leisure facilities.

As reported on Thursday, Bourne Leisure Centre was due open today, with facilities in Stamford and the Deepings in August or later.
