A homeless shelter that helps people off the streets during the winter months is to benefit from a £1,000 donation from Grantham Mayor Dean Ward.
Mayor Ward has allocated the money from his Ward Member Grant fund to the joint churches project Grantham Ark.
The fund is run by South Kesteven District Council.
Coun Ward (Con- Arnoldfield) said: "Their big fund-raiser is an annual sleepout but that can't take place this year because of Covid restrictions so they are missing out on a lot of donations.
"This grant will help support the Winter Night Shelter, which operates from St Wulfram's church from January to March, and to help establish a permanent night shelter in Grantham."
St Wulfram's, St Mary's Roman Catholic and Harrowby Lane Methodist churches together started a scheme to give shelter to the homeless last winter and has since become a registered charity.
Rector of St Wulfram's, Father Stuart Cradduck, said: "The Ark is very grateful for Cllr Ward's support and we hope it will inspire others not only to help but also recognise this growing situation as Grantham's church communities work together to help those on the edge of society."
