From lockdowns to laughter - after almost two years of suffering through a global pandemic, it's safe to say that we all need to find some joy in our lives again. Comedy and laughter can help us to heal.

Three fantastic, big-name comedians are heading to South Kesteven this autumn with the return of Meres Live events at Grantham's Meres Leisure Centre. Jason Manford (Like Me) is first up, appearing on Saturday 16 October.

Jimmy Carr (Terribly Funny) will be entertaining audiences on Saturday 6 November, and Milton Jones (Milton: Impossible) hits the stage one week later, on Friday 12 November.

Each has their own brand of humour so there is something for everyone - Jimmy Carr leans heavily towards darker, adult humour; Jason Manford offers up traditional, observational comedy with a Northern slant; whilst Milton Jones favours deadpan, surreal one-liners.

Coun Rosemary Trollope-Bellew, Cabinet Member for Culture and Visitor Economy, said: "Surveys across the country have all indicated just how much audiences have missed attending live performances and shared experiences.

"Shared events are so important to our psyche. We have missed the opportunity to laugh alongside other people over the past two years and it is something that can help us to heal.

"There's some truth in the old saying that laughter is the best medicine. Humour and laughter release endorphins that make us feel better, lower blood pressure, ease tension and reduce stress. And shared laughter, specifically, promotes positive feelings, strengthens relationships, and gives us a feeling of togetherness. We really hope that audiences will enjoy these fantastic comedy acts."

The Meres Leisure Centre is ready to welcome audiences back and, while some Covid-19 protocols will remain in place, such as enhanced cleaning, the ongoing provision of hand-sanitiser stations, and wearing of face-coverings still recommended, the centre will reopen at full capacity.

There is free parking onsite at the Meres.
