Hospital campaigners plan a larger protest next month after rain and cold winds hampered the turnout of a demonstration outside Grantham Hospital yesterday.

Around lunchtime several dozen gathered for the launch of a new campaign with a heart theme, which will also feature on social media.

Mel Powles of the Fighting 4 Grantham Hospital campaign, which has almost 9,000 Facebook members, posted after yesterday's lunchtime turnout she was not surprised by the 'small' turnout due to the weather and people still being concerned over the virus.

Mel continued: "But we are not disheartened â¤â¤â¤ we're building up to August 16th....."

In the meantime, Mel urges people to download designs from the F4GH facebook page and spread them all over social media and Grantham.

The 'hearts' campaign has been boosted by support from Michael Davies Printing of Grantham and funding from councillors Ray Wootten, Adam Stokes and Mark Whittington.

Coun Wootten told Nub News yesterday's launch of the 'hearts' campaign was good and Mel was planning a bigger gathering on August 16 to mark the 4th anniversary of the end of 24/7 services at Grantham A&E.

He said: "We (three councillors) are extremely happy to support F4GH. they are very active, very vocal, they are doing a really good job and put the case forward on behalf of the residents."

Coun Wootten added that as a former cancer patient, he was also 'really pleased' to see Grantham Hospital has now treated more than 50 cancer patients, since the A&E was 'downgraded' to an Urgent Treatment Centre last month.
