Lincolnshire families with children receiving benefits-related free school meals are being urged not to miss out on a programme of free activities and food during the school holidays.

Funded by the government through local authorities and delivered in local areas by a range of providers to meet the needs and demand of local communities, the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme provides children with free activities including dance, drama, music, sports and games.

There are also opportunities to learn about and enjoy new healthy foods, cooking, and food tasting as well as an opportunity to make new friends.

Around 1,500 children have already signed up to take part in Lincolnshire, but there are still spaces available at a number of venues around the county.

Cllr Mrs Patricia Bradwell OBE, executive member for children's services, said: "We know the school holidays can be a pressure point for some families because of increased costs and reduced incomes, with some children more likely to experience an 'unhealthy holiday' in terms of nutrition and physical health.

"The HAF programme is designed to provide these children with a range of engaging and enriching activities, as well as free, healthy food. In addition, being with their friends will aid their emotional wellbeing and social development.

"Hundreds of children already taking part in this summer's activities, but there are still spaces available in some areas. So if your family is eligible for the programme, don't let your child miss out."

You can find further details on the HAF programme, including a list of participating venues with spaces available, here.
