Grantham Town FC has renamed its social club - to commemorate the year the football club was founded - in time for the start of the new season.

The Meres venue will now be known as The Gingerbread Venue 1874 and the club is encouraging both supporters and residents to make use of the facility.

Grantham Town Chairman Nigel Wedgwood said: "A new committee has been set up to make The Gingerbread Venue 1874 a place where the local community can come for a night out, without having to venture into the centre of town.

"The football club is working hard to increase the people coming through the gate.

"We want our customers to feel closer to our football club too.

"By popping in for a drink you're supporting your local football club. It all has a positive effect."

The social club also has new opening times. It will open very Friday from 6pm to 11.30pm and every Sunday from 12.15pm to 6.30pm. On non-match Saturdays it will open from 6pm to 11.30, but from 12.30pm to 11.30pm when there is a game. And, only on a match day, the venue will open on Tuesday from 6pm to 11.30pm.

The Gingerbread Venue 1874 will be holding live music tribute nights throughout the year and is also available to hire for celebrations and events as well as offering business packages for meetings of up to 120 people.
