Pavements have been repaired in Grantham's Canterbury Close, but it has been a long time in coming.

Residents alerted Lincolnshire County Council to the dangers in 2017 but like many pavements across the county, their condition has deteriorated.

Grantham East county councillor Linda Wootten said: "I'm afraid we had to await our turn for the work to be programmed in for repairs."

Coun Wootten said she has had many conversations with highways chiefs over the years, demanding Canterbury Close be prioritised.

"After LCC did their survey of the pavements it was decided they were beyond patch and repair and that a new surface would be needed.

"It has been a long wait and perhaps the elderly residents have been frustrated with the situation but, I'm afraid that's how the system works, as all work has to be budgeted for and programmed within a schedule.

"I have had an appreciative call from one of the residents, who has also been a great help in keeping me up to date, especially when work had stopped at one stage.

"After my investigation I found out it was because of the floods in Wainfleet that staff had to be deployed to help out there.

"There has been some praise for the team of workmen who have been doing the work as they were very obliging during the disruptions.

Coun Wootten added: "The pavements look great now but the most important thing is that the residents safety has been addressed and they now have a more pleasant environment where they live."
