Councillors have backed a dog exercise and training area to be created in fields north of a village near Grantham.

Ms C Watson of Westfield Farm, Station Road, Barkston, seeks to create the venture on a 2.5ha site east of Hough Road, which is also north of Barkston.

This afternoon, all of the members of the planning committee of South Kesteven District Council voted to approve the scheme, despite local opposition.

As Nub News reported recently, villagers feared the dogs would make too much noise and the business would generate too much traffic.

Planning agent Mike Sibthorpe, representing the applicant, said the dog exercise field would be rented out on an hourly basis for dog owners to safely exercise their dogs.

He said there was significant demand for this as there were fewer and fewer places now where people could safely let their dogs off their leash and exercise.

Coun Iain Selby told the meeting he recently looked after a dog and such a facility would have been ideal for him to use.

Members then all voted to approve the scheme.
