Christmas can be a time of the year when cute puppies are purchased online as last minute gift, the positive side of having a dog can be companionship, keep you fit, active and reduce stress. The disadvantages are potential vets fees, training and kennel costs.

Having my daughter and her dogs at home and occasionally taking them out for walks, I realise that not all dog owners are responsible when it comes to cleaning up when your dog messes in a public place.

South Kesteven District Council does provide many bins which can accept disposable biodegradable bags, just lookout for the dog symbol on the bin. If you cannot find a dog bin then double wrap the dog bag and place it in a normal bin.

Over the week complaints have been made around the Manners Street area of Grantham of dog owners not picking up their dogs waste by leaving it on door steps and in gardens.

The SKDC Enforcement Officer has been notified and will monitor this area. It is an offence not to pick up your dogs waste and owners can be issued with an on the spot fine by the way of a fixed penalty notice.

Grantham-based district and county councillor Ray Wootten said : "Dog fouling is not only deeply unpleasant, it is dangerous and can lead to intestinal diseases, please dispose of your dog waste in a responsible way."

It is estimated that there is 1000 tons of dog waste each day across the UK.
