A traffic jam on the A1 was said to be stretching back from Grantham all the way to Newark after a collision this afternoon.

The AA reported the A1 southbound was closed this afternoon following the collision between a lorry, a van and a car driver between the B1174 Great North Road turn-off and the A52 (Grantham North / Barrowby Turn Off).

By 5.30pm, the A1 was said to be back open.

The incident was first reported at 1.10pm and traffic levels were said to be 'heavy.'

The impact of the collision also affected traffic levels in Grantham, with AA Roadwatch earlier reporting congestion on several approach roads into the town this afternoon.

As yet, there are no reports of any injuries but fire engines, ambulances and an air ambulance have attended the scene.
