Grantham CAMRA confirms no beer festival this year

Grantham CAMRA has tonight confirmed that there will be no annual beer festival this year.

The popular event has grown rapidly in recent years, becoming one of the most popular beer festivals in the East Midlands.

The magnificent setting of St Wulframs' Church, coupled with an extensive and growing range of beers, ciders, other drinks, food, plus live music, have made the event a major part of the Grantham calendar and an important fundraiser for both CAMRA and the church.

Members have been debating whether or not current government social distancing guidelines would allow the popular event to go ahead as planned in late October.

Sadly, but not surprisingly, branch chairman Rob Hamnett-Day said on Grantham CAMRA's Facebook page tonight: "That's it folks....

"The committee have sat down and looked at the current guidelines, notices from CAMRA and the Church and we cannot go ahead this year.

"With all the neccessary limitations to follow we dont feel that having a festival this year would be viable, or able to create the same amazing atmosphere we all enjoy in St Wulframs.

"We are just as upset about having to do this as you are but feel it is for the best."

Rob, who works in the armed forces and is presently stationed in the Falkland Islands, continued: "We will continue to work closely with St Wulfram's Grantham to ensure we can put on the best festival possible next year....

"Until then.... stay safe... support your local pubs, clubs and breweries.... and I hope to see you all on my return from the Falkland Islands."
