Grantham: A great Lincolnshire summer

With staycations firmly on the agenda this summer for most of us, we're lucky in Lincolnshire that our county has so much to offer.
Here are some highlights showing that there really is something for everyone in our great county.
Cycling:
- see sculptures and amazing views on the Spa Trail (Horncastle – Woodhall Spa)
- follow the national cycle route along the Grantham Canal (Grantham – Bottesford)
- discover the fenland landscapes along the Water Railway (Lincoln – Boston)
- enjoy a short cycle with the kids at the beautiful Witham Way Country Park, Boston
- kids learning to cycle? Head to the Georgie Twigg cycle track, between Doddington Hall and Lincoln
- great, short circular routes at Bourne Wood, Bourne and Willingham Woods, Market Rasen
- Lincoln Castle and Cathedral
- the Collection Museum and Usher Gallery in Lincoln
- awe-inspiring Stamford has over 600 listed buildings
- Boston Stump
- for kids who love planes, have a trip to the Aviation Heritage museum, near Sleaford
- check out the amazing plane simulator at 'We will meet again WW2 Museum', Freiston
- be inspired at many of the Wind and Watermills across the county
- explore the Museum of Lincolnshire Life
Dog days:
- dog friendly days at Lincoln Castle 31 July–1 August and 25–26 September, 10am–5pm
- teach your dog to swim at Hubbards Hills, Louth
- most peaceful place – Jenny's Wood, Wyberton and Westgate Woods, Boston
- navigate the hills at Snipedales Country Park, near Spilsby
- stroll along the River Haven to Pilgrim Fathers memorial at Fishtoft
- take a cruise along the River Welland, near Spalding
- walk or hire a narrowboat along the picturesque Grantham Canal
- try paddleboarding at Antons Gowt or Kirkstead Bridge
- see the wildlife at Frampton Reserve, near Boston
- learn to sail at Rutland Water or at Hykeham Sailing Club
- explore Torksey Lock, near Gainsborough – see the ingenious clapper gates only found on the River Trent
- Lincolnshire Libraries have online craft-alongs and activities
- discover your heritage at Lincolnshire Archives
- visit Manor Stables Craft Workshop at Fulbeck for some crafty retail therapy
Sizzling days:
- head to the Coastal Country Park – from Sandlilands to Chapel St Leonards
- pop to one of the many charming sea side towns along the coast
- bird watching at the Round House at Anderby Creek
- check out one of the amazing outdoor swimming pools or free splash pads
- try an Alpaca trek at Dry Doddington
- Grimsthorpe Castle for a 'park safari' round the estate by horse & carriage
Interesting walks:
- Red Hill nature reserve, near Cadwell – one of the 60 Queen's Coronation Meadows
- The Lindsey Trail – a 5 stage circular walk through the Wolds
- Ancaster Valley, near Grantham – one of the finest sites for limestone flowers in the country
- Tupholme Abbey, near Bardney – ruins of one of the original monastic buildings still visible
- Belvoir Castle, Burghley House, Belton House
- bird watching on the Haven path
- Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe National Nature reserve – mudflats, marshes and sand dunes
