A fundraiser to create a hospital bereavement suite in memory of a Grantham baby girl who died after suffering a cardiac arrest at just nine days old has reached its £3,000 target.

But beautiful Amelia Rose's mum Tanita Middleton, who launched the JustGiving page hopes more generous supporters will continue to donate to help fund further research into infant and childhood heart conditions.

Tanita's appeal raised £3,000 in three days and will enable her to create a bereavement suite for parents who have lost a child at Lincoln County Hospital, where Amelia passed away on 25 May.

She told Grantham Nub News: "The support has been absolutely amazing, it's fantastic so many people have donated and I am very grateful.

"The bereavement suite will be calming place with less of a hospital feel for parents who experience still born, infant or child loss to hold and spend time with their child for the last time.

"No parent should ever have to go through the pain of losing a child and hopefully this special room will make the experience easier.

"It's lovely to be able to provide that in Amelia's memory.

"It would be wonderful if people continued to support the appeal as we will be donating money left over from creating the bereavement suite for research into heart conditions.

"There is still so much that isn't known."

Amelia was Tanita, who owns Middleton Aesthetics beauty salon in Winchester Road, and her partner André Keidel's first child together and born a healthy 8lbs 3oz after a normal pregnancy.

The couple took their baby daughter home the following day.

But just eight days later, without any previous indication anything was wrong, Amelia became poorly and was taken back to Lincoln County Hospital by ambulance.

She suffered a cardiac arrest and, despite the best efforts of medical staff, passed away.

The couple got to spend two hours afterwards with Amelia, who had a rare heart condition, to say their final goodbyes.

But this was in the resuscitation room described by Tanita as 'surrounded by all the sights you don't want to see after the efforts of trying to bring your baby back from a cardiac arrest'.

The bereavement suite will be located away from the maternity unit, decorated in pastel colours and furnished with a double bed, sofa and tea and coffee-making facilities.

A plaque will be placed outside in Amelia's memory.
