Public electric vehicle charging points could soon be springing up in at least one of Grantham's council-owned car parks.
South Kesteven District Council (SKDC) invited tenders 'for the supply, installation and maintenance' of electric vehicle charging points at the beginning of August.
The council clearly states its preference is to employ a supplier who can provide charging points with 'income generating solutions'.
The bid invitation reads: "South Kesteven District Council wishes to appoint a supplier of electric vehicle charging points to assist in the increased ownership of electric cars.
"Tenders are invited for the supply, installation, and maintenance of electric vehicle charging points, to be installed at four locations throughout the borough.
"Suppliers are to suggest innovative solutions to assist the council provide charging points inside car parks, with a preference for income generating solutions for the council."
The deadline to tender bids was 29 August with the council specifying a five-year contract, of up to £100,000, starting on 1 October this year.
SKDC has been considering installing electric vehicle charging points at its car parks in the district's four main towns for some time.
In January last year (2018) SKDC Cabinet agreed to 'support in principle' to introduce electric vehicle charging points in 'appropriate' council car parks.
Seven months later, In August, SKDC said it was working with energy supplier E.ON to bring electric vehicle charge points to public car parks in Grantham, Stamford, Bourne and Market Deeping.
"If we want to become a destination for people to come and visit, work in, we should provide the capability," Coun Dr Peter Moseley said at the time.
"By having charging points, we can encourage visitors in electric vehicles from as far as places such as London and York."
