Drive-thru coffee is being brewed up for the A1 just north of Grantham.

Motor Fuel Ltd hope such fare will be South Kesteven District Council's cup of tea for its site at Foston Services on the A1 northbound.

The nationwide forecourt operator wants to demolish a building on the 2,500m2 site area which until 2007 contained a Little Chef restaurant before becoming Breakers Roadside Restaurant and in 2012, LJS Diner before closing in 2013.

The building is presently used by a mobile catering company, but Motor Fuel Ltd wants to demolish the existing 300m2 building and replace it with a 183.5m2 coffee shop and drive-thru.

With on-site food, such as pastries and "coffee to go," this would help fulfil current major trends, said the planning application to SKDC.

Some 11 jobs would be created by the venture, which would have an existing Esso petrol station to its north-west as part of the service area. There would also be parking for cars and motorcycles.

The application said the long-established site has served motorists for many years but the current site does not meet modern standards or motorists' needs or expectations of a service area.

It added: "Whilst the application is located in the countryside, it is nevertheless clear that the principle of development within this location adjacent to the A1 is long established.

"The proposal seeks to make best use of a previously developed parcel of land, enhancing the service area for motorists whilst respecting the countryside location."

South Kesteven District Council will determine the planning application at a later date.
