A dog exercise gym has been approved in open countryside near Grantham.

South Kesteven District Council has approved the application from someone known as 'Benson' on Barkston Heath, Barkston.

The application sought to build a portal 213m2 framed building in a domestic garden at the Bungalow, Barkston Heath, to contain Dog Water Gym facilities.

A report by council plannign staff said the application site, containing a detached bungalow, is located within a collection of commercial operations and residential properties to the west of the High Dyke, B6403, to the south of Barkston Airfield.

The building would be 10m by 24m with a ridge high of 4.1m finished in box profile Goose grey with a transparent roof.

The report continued: "The building is to be used for indoor dog exercise and an above ground exercise pool for paying dog owners and their dogs. The building will be used in one hour periods during an 8 hour daily period."

Public consultation by SKDC led to no community letters of representation.

Assessing the application, SKDC planning staff said policies aim to support rural diversification and this scheme met council planning policy. The size of the scheme and setting in open countryside was also appropriate. Therefore, the application should be approved, it added.
