Councillors are being recommended to refuse a 78-home application in a village north of Grantham next week

The application by Larkfleet Homes would see the development built on land north of Doddington Lane, Claypole.

However, South Kesteven District Council's planning committee will be told by officers that the proposal goes into open greenfield land "beyond the existing pattern of development".

"The proposed development would extend obtrusively into the open countryside," officers have said.

"The site is not allocated for development or an infill site and evidence of substantial support for the proposed development from the local community has not been provided.

"The design and appearance of the proposal is not appropriate for the context and would compromise the village's nature and character"

They add that it does not provide "adequate" pedestrian and cycle links to the village.

The application, which would include 75 bungalows and three three-bedroom two-storey properties, would see 23 of those homes classes as "affordable".

SKDC has received objections from the parish council, as well as 55 letters of representation raising concerns over highway safety, local amenities, drainage and a lack of community support.

In documents before the authority, Larkfleet said the plans will help meet South Kesteven's requirements and deliver "lasting economic, social and environmental benefits."
