The leader of South Kesteven District council says he is determined the council will do all its can to protect staff and residents as well as maintain its critical services and support businesses.

His statement follows Prime Minister Boris Johnson announcing a second lockdown on Saturday, starting from Thursday, to help stop the spread of Covid-19.

Coun Cooke (Con- Casewick) said: "I know these measures will not be easy for any of us, but I am determined that SKDC will once again do all it can to protect the health of our staff and our residents, maintain our critical services and support our local businesses.

"The community spirit and resilience show by residents across South Kesteven has been amazing throughout and I am confident they will come step forward again - by being good neighbours, volunteering to help others and sticking to the new rules.

Coun Cooke continued: "The latest restrictions will impact on the way people work and will, unfortunately, close some businesses, but we must be clear why they are being introduced - to help save lives and protect the NHS.

"It is important that we now closely follow Government advice and do all we can to guard against further spread of the virus.

"South Kesteven District Council has maintained all of its essential services to residents, such as refuse collection, throughout the pandemic and will continue to do so.

"The successful SK Community Hub, set up to co-ordinate help for the most vulnerable and those most in need, will again play a leading role in our response. If you need support please get in touch by emailing [email protected] or calling 01476 406177. "

He added: "We will be doing all we can to support businesses through this incredibly difficult period. There is financial support available and details of this and what SKDC is doing to help can be found on our website and via our social media channels.

"We must work together and support each other and, if we do so, I am sure we will come through this."
