Coronavirus crisis: Sharp rise in Lincolnshire cases after 'technical issue'

Cases of coronavirus in Greater Lincolnshire leapt by 317 over the weekend after unreported cases were added to the 184 already confirmed during the week.

The government dashboard's death tally, which includes those both in and out of hospitals, also increased by two, however, NHS deaths reported three new fatalities in hospitals across the region.

A message on the government dashboard explained there had been a technical issue in the data in the week between September 25 and October 2, so cases increased by an extra 15,841 over the weekend for a total of 22,961.

This meant the UK's coronavirus dashboard showed cases of COVID-19 in Lincolnshire increased by 195, another 90 in North Lincolnshire, and 36 in North East Lincolnshire.

The latest data also means North Lincolnshire has passed the 1,000 cases mark, while the number Greater Lincolnshire residents who have died after testing positive for coronavirus have passed 400.

In the government figures two deaths were confirmed to be Lincolnshire residents, but in NHS data there was one further death in a Lincolnshire Community Health Service facility and two under United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust care.

Overall this means 393 cases have been confirmed in Greater Lincolnshire the first five days of October.

There were 820 cases in September, a 400% increase on August numbers.

The national figure now stands at 502,978.

Deaths nationally increased by 33 to 42,350.

403 in North East Lincolnshire (up 53)

275 from Lincolnshire (up two)

36 from North East Lincolnshire (no change)

of which 277 hospital deaths (up three) 149 at United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust (up two)

5 at Lincolnshire Community Health Service hospitals (up one)

1 at Lincolnshire Partnership Foundation Trust (no change)

122 in Northern Lincolnshire (NLAG) (no change)

The UK also reports 502,978 cases and 42,350 deaths.
