A series of drive-in musical tribute performances at Newark showground due to start this weekend have been cancelled.

The move follows recent cases in the town, most notably at the Bakkavor food company, which has also affected staff working in Lincolnshire.

A statement issued by music festival organisers Nightflix said: ""We have been closely monitoring the case rates in Newark as well as liaising with the local Council, and given current rising coronavirus rates we have taken the difficult decision to postpone the live music element of our Festival series of events.

"The safety of our audiences and staff is paramount to us, and given the length of the live music element of our Festival series, we believe taking this step is the best decision, while disappointing to us as passionate fans and supporters of live music.

"Nightflix drive-in films are continuing to be screened as scheduled. We will be screening the movie elements of each event as scheduled, for ticketholders who want to attend.

"All ticketholders are being informed.

"We are looking at dates in late October to reschedule our music events and will confirm new timings as soon as possible. Ticketholders can find more information on our website."

As Nub News previously reported, the musical acts were to start tomorrow (Saturday) and run daily until August 23.
