Coronavirus crisis: Lincolnshire Co-op explains why the pandemic is delaying the opening of its first Grantham food outlet

Local News by The Editor 24th Mar 2020

The opening of a £1.5M Co-op off Springfield Road has been delayed because of the Coronavirus crisis.

The store, on the corner with Hanbury Avenue, was due to open next Thursday, April 2.

Some 15 full-time and part-time jobs will be created at what is the Lincolnshire Co-op's first food store in Grantham.

However, a spokesman told Nub News this afternoon: "We were planning to open a new food store on Springfield Road in Grantham at the beginning of April.

"Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, we're encountering staffing and delivery issues across our food business.

"This has meant we've had to delay the opening of our Springfield Road Food Store. We're reviewing the situation on an ongoing basis and hope to open as soon as we can."

The new outlet joins the Lincolnshire society's Grantham Travel Branch and Barrowby Gate Pharmacy.

The 3000 sq ft store features a car park with 20 spaces, including two disabled spaces.

When open, it's hours will be from 7am to 10pm seven days a week.
