Grantham Cemetery has been reopened by South Kesteven District Council in line with revised Government guidelines so that people can visit memorials to loved ones.

Previous advice was that crematoriums with a cemetery within their grounds, such as in Grantham, should close other than for funerals and burials to help limit the spread of Coronavirus.

In order to maintain social distancing, the restriction that a maximum of ten people can attend funeral services and burials remains in place.

A spokesperson for SKDC said: "This is a very sensitive issue and we apologise for any distress the temporary closure may have caused. While the cemetery reopened on Monday morning, we are

appealing for visitors to please observe social distancing restrictions at all times." On Saturday the Housing, Communities and Local Government Secretary, Robert Jenrick, said any cemeteries and churchyards that had been closed should be reopened. He said the move was to

allow people to visit graves or privately lay flowers.
