Coronavirus crisis: 'Small and friendly' Grantham bar Beerheadz won't open straight away
The popular and award-winning Beerheadz chain of micro-pubs says it won't be opening its Grantham or other outlets straight away.
Company bosses say the decision to delay the re-opening of their bar in Watergate and elsewhere stem from the small and friendly nature of their bars, where customers are encouraged to talk to each other.
A statement on the Beerheadz website said it plans to open its pubs "as soon as physically possible."
"However, we've taken the decision not to rush into opening on July 4th.
"We respect all our fellow publicans who are ready to open safely on this date, but our venues are a little different.
"Due to the 'micro' nature of our pubs, we are taking time to properly risk assess them all and make necessary adjustments before we can open the doors.
"We're doing this because nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and staff.
The statement added: "You can expect an update from us soon as we prepare to open our pubs gradually, and safely, in the next few weeks."
Simon Finch, manager of the Grantham Beerheadz told Nub News he was keen to open as soon as practicable, adding regulars keep telling him they can't wait for the bar to re-open.
"They see us as a small, friendly pub that serves top beers and ciders. They have been missing us due to the lockdown.
"But being a small, friendly pub noted for conversation has worked against us due to the social distancing requirements. The whole ethos and nature of the pub is sadly the problem."
Beerheadz has other branches at Lincoln, Nottingham, Retford and Melton Mowbray.
