Over 80s are being invited to Lincolnshire's first major vaccination site.

Boston's Princess Royal Sports Arena has begin vaccinating people, with residents within a 45 minutes drive of it being invited to book an appointment.

NHS Lincolnshire says the centre gives residents a second option and Local Primary Networks have begun sending out letters to patients giving them the choice.

The Boston centre is part of a national network of large vaccination sites and the only way to attend is by booking a place as outlined in the letters.

A second centre is also being planned for Lincolnshire, in addition to a mobile vaccination service, which will also be helped by the military and other volunteers.

On Saturday morning, NHS Lincolnshire reported some problems with the national booking website, in that it briefly did not show Boston PRSA as a vaccination centre. But the matter has now been resolved and people can now use the website and book appointments up to seven days in advance.

It means that over 80s living within a 45 minute drive of Boston and have yet to be vaccinated can either book a day and a time at the Boston PRSA centre, using the website or telephone number; or they can wait to be called by the NHS and be invited to their local vaccination sites.

Maz Fosh, Chief Executive of the centre's lead provider, Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust, said: "We are thrilled that Lincolnshire is again increasing vaccination access in the county through what will currently be the largest centre in the Midlands outside Birmingham.

"Our team across the county's NHS, local resilience forum, volunteers and many more continue to work hard together to ensure we are protecting the county's priority groups with the coronavirus vaccine".
