A Co-op convenience store is planned for a village near Grantham.

Lincolnshire Co-operative hope to build the store on a 0.25ha site on land east of Low Road, Barrowby.

The 377m2 store promises the equivalent of 15 full-time jobs, parking for 21 cars, with 2 further disabled spaces, plus 8 bikes.

It would serve an adjoining housing development, which has already been approved, as well as the rest of the village.

The application to South Kesteven District Council says outline planning permission for 49 homes was granted nearby in May 2019, and at the Reserved Matters stage in December 2020, as previously reported by Nub News.

This approval did not include the store but an indicative layout of how the proposed residential development would sit alongside the future store.

Already the site has existing approval for housing and land to its west is allocated in the Local Plan for 270 homes.

The application also says Local Plan policy allows for new community facilities like shops in larger villages like Barrowby.

It continued: "The proposed store is located within easy access on foot by not only the planned 270 dwellings but also the village as a whole."

Therefore, the store met SKDC planning policies and should be approved.

The Co-op added it has opened other village stores in recent years, which have supported the community by trading through the pandemic.

Last May, the Lincolnshire Co-op opened its first Grantham food store in Springfield Road, Grantham, as Nub News reported here.
