Beams focus of Grantham Southern Relief Road Progress

Sixteen bridge beams each weighing more than 14 tonnes have been lifted into place as part of the Grantham Southern Relief Road project.

In a monthly update on the progress of the £102 million road, Lincolnshire County Council said the beams were lifted into place to the west of the A1 over three evenings.

July also saw, continued bridge deck works, continued drainage works to the eastern and western roundabouts and signage surveying works along the A1 verges was also carried out.

Contractors also carried out drainage tie-ins to the northbound and southbound A1.

Archaeological works for Phase Three east of the railway was also completed and ecological surveying for Phase Three was also progressed.

This month, contractors will continue steel and concrete works, waterproofing and backfill for the A1 bridge.

They will also continue drainage works to the eastern and western roundabouts and continue ecological surveying for Phase Three.

There are no upcoming restrictions and closures apart from the ongoing 50mph speed limit and narrowed lanes on the A1 between Harlaxton to Little Ponton.

The Phase Two junction with the A1 is due for completion in Autumn 2021, with the entire 3.5km road due to link up with the A52 during winter 2022/23.
