Armed police were called to a Grantham street following an incident late yesterday afternoon.

Lincolnshire Police told Nub News: "We received a call at 4.38pm today (Saturday 20th March) reporting youths drinking on Springfield Road, Grantham.

"Upon attendance our officers spoke to the youths. Some of the group said that they had seen a male possibly carrying a weapon.

"In the interest of public and officer safety, armed police were deployed. A search of the area was carried out and no one carrying a weapon was located."

Springfield Road was closed for a while but police left by 7pm and the road re-opened.
