Forestry England has condemned vandals who struck at Twyford Wood and spray-painted swastikas around the woodland...including a bench commemorating D-Day heroes.

The wood, near Colsterworth, is owned by Forestry England which is currently assessing the damage and will then undertake a clean-up.

A Forestry England spokesman told Grantham Nub News today (Tues): "We are appalled at the vandalism that took place in Twyford Wood recently, which saw parts of the forest defaced, including a commemorative bench honouring soldiers who flew from RAF North Witham – now Twyford Wood – to be part of the D-Day landing in 1944.

"We are assessing the damage and working to remove the vandalism as quickly as possible and urge anyone who has seen anything suspicious to come forward to the police on 101."

The vandal attack happened sometime between Sun and yesterday (Mon) with a number of areas at the woodland site defaced with swastikas using silver and white spray paint.
